Notes on post-processing

​

My post-processing workflow usually involves some or all of the following:

 

  • Stacking multiple images in DeepSky Stacker (freeware, mostly for deep sky images)

  • Removing light pollution gradients using Iris software (freeware)

  • Stretching the image histogram using small repetitive levels adjustments in Photoshop Elements 2020

  • In PSE 2020 levels, using the black pipette to set the background sky black level.  This level has to be set at a value of about 25, 25, 25, not the default 0,0,0.

  • In PSE 2020 levels, using the gray pipette to adjust the background sky color balance.

  • Using Topaz Adjust and Clarity plugins to increase contrast and color saturation.
